Joshua Hadley was born 6 March 1703 Ireland, son of Simon and Ruth (Keran) Hadley. On 2nd of the 7th month 1725 he married Mary Rowland, daughter of Thomas and Mary (Royle-Coles) Brown of Nottingham, Chester County, Pennsylvania. They were married by a "priest" (any minister other than a Quaker) and disowned by the Society. Patience regained her membership. She died 23rd of the 5th month 1783 and is buried at Cane Creek Monthly Meeting, North Carolina.
In 1748 Joshua Hadley purchased 400 acres of land in Augsta (now Botecourt) County, Virginia, and about 1755 moved to Orange County, North Carolina. He died in the Fall of 1760 and is buried at Cane Creek.

William and James Brown went from New Castle, Delaware, into the wilderness that is now "Nottingham Township", in Cecil County Maryland, in the fall of 1701. They settled at a spring on the trail from Chester County to the Trading Post on Palmer's Island. When they were later forced to return to New Castle for provisions, they were joined by others of the Friends community and soon were leaders in a fluorishng community.

These movements were nearly certainly down the Great Philadelphia Wagon Route, which was not more than ruts passing over the Appalachian mountains and through the endless forests, down through Virginia to the Carolinas, as shown in the map below. Cane Creek in Chatham County, North Carolina is not far from this wagon route.

1750-1 at Mill Creek,.Delaware. Simon Hadley came from Ireland in 1712, and settled in New Castle County, where he served as a Justice for many years, and was from 1726, a Judge of the New Castle Courts. He married as his second wife, Phebe, widow of Richard Buffington of Bradford, Chester County. Her maiden name was Grubb. Simon Hadley II died at Southwood, Delaware, XI-17, 1756. His children:
