Notes for Lydia (Spouse 2)
Lydia Beals was the daughter of John H. Beals III and Margaret Hunt Beals. She married first Christopher Hiatt, 23 Sep 1762 in New Garden MM, Rowan County, North Carolina. After Christopher's death 12 Dec 1792 in Guilford Co (formerly Rowan County until 1771), she married Joshua Hadley, Jr on 22 Feb 1800. Lydia predeceased Joshua Hadley, Jr., therefore she is not mentioned in his will. They were married about 16 months. Christopher Hiatt was buried in Guilford Co. Joshua and his wife of 36 years, Ruth Lindley, are buried in what was then Orange Co, NC. Chatham split from Orange Co in 1849. Guilford was a part of Rowan and Orange Co until 1770.
According to the Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, North Carolina, Vol 1 which is citing the New Garden Monthly Meeting records, the children of Christopher and Lydia Beals Hiatt were:
Nathan b. 9-30-1763
Asher b. 5-30-1765
Zadock b. 7-22-1767; d. 11-24-1778
John b. 7-27-1769
Jehu b. 8-20-1771
Esther b. 2-10-1774
William b. 4-11-1776; d. 9-3-1778
Amos b. 7-28-1778
Mordicai b. 9-13-1780. d. 10-10-1799
Christopher b. 2-5-1783
Lydia b. 4-15-1786
Thank you Joan Henshaw for clarifying the change in name of Rowan County to Guilford County in 1770. Of interest to some researchers may be findagrave #70693081 for John Borton and findagrave 103879315 for Elizabeth Borton Woolman. Their daughter Mary married William Hunt. Their son, Thomas, would be the grandfather of Lydia's daughter-in-law, Jemima Hunt. Their daughter Margaret would marry John Beals III who were Lydia's parents.
On Find A Grave.
