Almost certainly daughter of John Cashat (died circa 1748 in Fairfax County, Virginia, probably that part that later became Loudoun County) and Eleanor ? and sister of Jacob Cashat (circa 1740-circa 1829) of Randolph County, North Carolina, and of John Cashat, Jr. of Chatham County and Randolph County, North Carolina whose wife, Margaret Wells (circa 1746-circa 1843), died in Parke County, Indiana, where she is buried in Cashatt Cemetery near Turkey Run State Park, Sugar Creek Township. Several of Mary Cashat Hadley's children also settled in Parke County. It has been claimed that her mother was a Broyles, from the Broyles family that was part of the Germanna settlement in present Spotsylvania and Orange Counties, Virginia, but that seems to be wishful thinking or perhaps a mixup with a family of a similar name who intermarried with a later Cashat descendant. John Cashat has been claimed, without documentation, to be a son or other relative of the French Huguenot settler Andre Cochet who settled about 1700 at Manakintowne in present Powhatan County, Virginia. Proof of this is desired.
