Robert Tuck, Sr. was the son of John Tuck and the grandson of Bennett Tuck. Robert’s father John Tuck was born about 1730 either in England or one of the coastal counties of Virginia. John moved to Halifax County in about 1750. Robert was born 4 October 1773. Robert and his eleven siblings were all born in Halifax County, Virginia. He married Nancy Dewberry in Halifax County, Virginia and it was there that Robert and Nancy raised eleven children. Long before his death, their seven sons migrated to Georgia. Robert’s brother Bennett and his sister Jane “Jenny” Tuck and her husband Boyd Pinson also moved to Georgia. Two daughters left Virginia. Prudence, who married Eli Boyd Tuck, settled in Georgia; and Susannah Tuck married John Tuck and lived in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Two daughters did not leave Virginia – Sarah and Mary (“Polly”), who died unmarried in 1866. Robert Tuck’s wife Nancy died in Virginia in 1850 at 72. Robert Tuck made out his will 16 years later in 1866. He was 96 years old. He left all of his estate to his daughter Sarah Tuck Glasscock. No other children were living in Virginia. He died a year later.

The facts presented came from Alethea Jane Macon’s book, John and Edward Tuck of Halifax County, Virginia and Some of Their Descendants; A History of Tuckston United Methodist Church, Founded in 1889 written by James Hefner and Elsa Ann Johnson; and from stories shared by Barbara Hathaway and Lenda Tuck on Ancestry.com.

Robert Tuck Sr. is the son of John Tuck and Mary Ellen Powell of the Bluewing Plantation, Halifax County, Virginia.
Many years before his death, his 7 sons and two of his daughters had left Virginia leaving behind one married and one unmarried daughter. In the War Between the States, it is said that all of his numerous grandsons who had reached the age of 17 became soldiers of the Confederacy, and about half of them losing their lives for the cause. Robert was 96 years old and almost totally blind, he made his will on October 10, 1866. He left his entire estate to his wife for her lifetime after which his home place was to go to Sarah Tuck Glascock, his married daughter in Halifax and all other property was to be sold and divided among his other living children. His nephew, Richard Tuck was named as Executor. The witnesses were Phaltiel Tuck, Levi Elliott, William P. Wilkinson, and James W. Moriss. On November 27, 1867 the will was recorded in Halifax county Court House.
