William Irby Tuck, Sr. was born about 1818 in Halifax County, Virginia. He came to Georgia when he was quite young. He married Elizabeth Adeline Busbin on 14 January 1841 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. He was 23. William and Adeline had two sons.
