COME NOW the said adm’rs and file their Account Current, To Wit (here insert it) whichly is appears that there have come to the hands of the administrators in afeth of said Estate the sum of ($1425.63) fourteen hundred and twenty five dollars and sixty three cents and that they have paid out on claims and for expenses of administration including seventy five dollars for their services as allowed by the court the sum of ($244.44 ½) Two hundred forty four dollars and forty four and one-half cents having the sum of ($1201.18 ½) Twelve hundred one dollars and eighteen and one-half cents for distribution among the nine heirs of the said Nathan Cox deceased, to wit, 1. Andrew Cox.  2. Matthew Johnson & Mary, his wife.  3. Hiram S. Love and Eleanor, his wife.  4. Wm E. Marshall and his wife, Eliza.  5. Samuel Moore and Keziah, his wife.  6. George Cox.  7. Hugh Cox.  8. John Cox.  9. James Cox, making the shares of each ($133.46 ½) one hundred and thirty three dollars and forty six and one-half cents.

And in their said Account Current, said adm’nrs claim credit of ($995.01 ½) Nine hundred ninety five dollars and one and one-half cents the amount they have paid said heirs, as per vouchers on file to the satisfaction of the court.  It is therefore ordered by the court that said administrators do pay to each of said heirs, as their distributive shares of said Estate the aforesaid sum of ($133.46 ½) one hundred and thirty three dollars and forty six and one-half cents, after deducting from that sum the respective amounts which each have received, to wit:

To Andrew Cox (34 cts) thirty four cents, he having received the sum of ($133.12 ½) One hundred thirty three dollars and twelve and one-half cents.

To Matthew Johnson and Mary Johnson, the said Matthew in right of said Mary, ($19.46 ½) Nineteen dollars and forty six and one-half cents, they having received ($114.00) One hundred fourteen dollars.

To Hiram S. Love and Eleanor Love, his wife, the said Hiram in right of said Eleanor the sum of ($32.49 ¾) Thirty two dollars and forty nine and three quarters cents, they having received the sum of ($100.97) One hundred dollars and ninety seven cents.

To William E. Marshall and Eliza Marshall, his wife, the said William in right of said Eliza the sum of ($16.90 ½) Sixteen dollars and ninety and one-half cents, they having received the sum of  ($116.56) One hundred sixteen dollars and fifty six cents.

To the Heirs of Samuel Moore and Keziah Moore, both deceased, is right of said Keziah the sum of ($82.96 ½) Eight two dollars and ninety six and one-half cents, the said Samuel and Keziah having received the sum of ($50.50) fifty dollars and fifty cents.

To George Cox the sum of ($29.29 ½) Twenty nine dollars and twenty nine and one-half cents, he having received the sum of ($104.17) one hundred four dollars and seventeen cents.

Hugh Cox having received the sum of ($145.32) One hundred forty five dollars and thirty two cents, being overpaid ($11.85 1/2 ) eleven dollars and eighty five and one-half cents, which balance the said adm’nrs of Hugh Cox is directed to refund to the adm’nrs To be equally distributed among said nine heirs, after the costs accruing are paid.

To John Cox the sum of ($16.09 ½) sixteen dollars and nine and one-half cents, he having received the sum of ($117.37) one hundred seventeen dollars and thirty seven cents.

To James Cox the sum of ($20.46 ½) twenty dollars and forty six and one-half cents, he having received the sum of ($113.00) one hundred thirteen dollars.

It is ordered that said adm’nrs obtain the proper receipts for the balance of the distributive shares mentioned and upon producing them to this court the final order will be made and this case is continuing

Come Andrew Cox and George Cox administrators of Nathan Cox dec’d and deposits in the hands of the Clerk of this Court the sum of Eighty two dollars and ninety six cents, the distributive share approved by this Court to the heirs of Kezia Moore dec’d formerly Kezia Cox, an heir of said decedent.  The clerk is hereby directed to pay the same to the heirs of said Kezia, and to the guardians of those heirs under the age of majority who are her heirs, and take their receipts therefor.  The said Kezia was the wife of Samuel Moore dec’d.

August 25th, 1849 paid Adeline Moore her share $16,60 and her receipt is on file in the papers of N. Cox.

Rec’d of William H. Ewing Clerk of the Probate Court the sum of sixteen dollars and fifty nine cents, in full of my distributive share of my deceased mother’s share. [John Moore – signature]. August 16th  1849, Attest Jno. H Benton

Nathan Cox is thought to have been born in Rowan County, NC@1782 and later moved from Whitley County, KY to Jackson County, IN @ 1813.

He was married to Alcy Cummings in Whitley County, KY in 1802. Their children were born in Kentucky and Indiana, and were named as follows: Andrew, Keziah, Moore, James, Mary Johnson, Eleanor Love, George W., Eliza Marshall, Hugh A. and John C.
It is recorded that Nathan received a land title in 1825, and it is thought that he died on, or about Jan. 30,1842 in the 60th year of his life and is buried on Chestnut Ridge in Washington Township, Jackson County. in what was once called in the Cox Cemetery and now is known as the Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, along with his wife, Alcy.

Hugh A, son of Nathan, was born@1824, and lived a short span of life into adulthood. On Feb. 13 , 1844, he married. Mary Keller, daughter of Jacob and Mary (Shuffler) Keller. One son, Isaac, was born to Hugh and Mary. But it was not meant to be, that Hugh help raise their son, because about August of 1845, he passed away leaving Mary to raise her young son. As many widows did at that time, Mary married a widower, William Sturgeon. The Sturgeon family lived in the southwest corner of Grassy Fork Township and were related to the Hutchinsons. That is where Isaac was raised. Mary (Keller) (Cox) Sturgeon died Dec. 22, 1919 and is buried in the Sturgeon Cemetery in Grassy Fork Township.

Isaac Cox was born Dec. 14, 1844, in Jackson County and was raised with half-brothers and sisters and step-brothers and sisters. He married Letitia Downing, March 11, 1869 in Jackson County. She was the daughter of Galatin Albert and Hannah (Hitchcock) Downing. Letitia was born April 13, 1844 in Washington County and died Sept. 19, 1891, in Jackson County. Isaac died Aug. 16,1915, in Jackson County. Both are buried in the Chestnut Ridge Cemetery. They raised the following children: Oscar, Melenia, Albert, Mary (Wieneke), Eleanor (Matthew), Isadore (Hunter), Hannah (Fleenor) and Edwin.

Eleanor (Nellie) Irene Cox was born March 21. 1878 in Jackson County and died Oct. 19, 1956. She married Daily Webster Matthew Sept. 9, 1902, in Indianapolis, IN. Daily was born in Jennings County, IN on May 13,1878, and died in Portland, OR on March 15,1928. He is buried in the Riverview Cemetery, there. Daily served in Co. K, 22nd United States Infantry, Spanish American War. He was a carpenter by trade and belonged to the Masonic Lodge.

Their children were: Hubert Beryl, born July 7. 1903, in Indianapolis, and died in Little Rock, AR in 1963, and a daughter, Mary Lutisha (Gregory) born in Madoc, MT. She married Paul Byrn Gregory June 9. 1935 in Jackson County.
Eleanor (Nellie) Irene (Cox) Matthew was buried in the Riverview Cemetery in Seymour. IN.
