Notes for William “Billy” With Dad JOHNSON
Away when 12 Cherokee warriors on 15 May 1789 attacked the Joseph Johnson cabin in Rye Cove, Scott County, Virginia. He was away with his father Joseph Johnson and older brother Zachariah Johnson.

From Rhomer Johnson:

I also have this story:  From Jan Hoy. This is a story told by one ancestor (no documentation).  Billie Johnson, b about 1775 had a Brother Matt, and a Sister Rebecca who were captured by the Cherokee Indians. Their father (Jacob or Joseph Johnson had gone to the  mill and the Indians came while he was gone.

They killed the mother and some of the children. The Indians raised Matt and Rebecca.  Later Billie Johnson took them from the Indians and brought them to Kentucky.

This does not verify anything, but based on this information I started my new tree called Johnson Cox and have connected to a large amount of DNA matches.  These Johnsons come from Scotland to the Isle of Wright, Virginia, etc.669

“I am bound to them though I cannot look into their eyes or hear their voices. I honor their history. I cherish their lives.
I will tell their story. I will remember them for I am the result of the very love, struggle, sacrifice and journey of thousands.”
