CARLOW MO MAN DIED HERE
Thomas A. Sloan, 75 years old, died Saturday afternoon at the New Hospital of a complication of ailments. He was brought to the hospital a week ago. The body was removed to the Norman Funeral Home where it was prepared for burial and shipped to Carlow Sunday at noon where funeral services were held from the Christian church at 2 o'clock this afternoon and interment made.
Five sons and one sister survives.

"Highly Respected Pioneer Citizen Passes Away – Was Carlow Postmaster"
Thomas A. Sloan, highly respected Daviess County pioneer, died at a hospital in Chillicothe Saturday. He was taken to the hospital form his home in Carlow about a week previous, and death was due to a complication of ailments. For many years he served as postmaster at Carlow, and was well known over the south part of the county. At the time of his death he was acting postmaster at Carlow. He was an excellent citizen, a Civil War veteran, and will be missed by a wide circle of friends.
The following obituary notice was read at the funeral service, which was held at the Carlow church at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. S. E. Hoover of Gallatin. Burial was in Clear Creek cemetery.
"Thomas A. Sloan was born in Bledsoe County, Tenn., Aug. 28, 1846, and died in the hospital at Chillicothe, Mo., April 8th, 1922, aged 75 years, 7 months and 10 days. When a small child his parents emigrated to Missouri and settled in Ray County. At the age of 17 he heard the call of his country and enlisted in the Union army, where he saw more than four years of service. He was married to Miss Susanna (sic) McGaugh, to whom six children were born, of which there are left, two sons, Wm. Sloan of Kansas City, and Fred Sloan of Canton, Mo. In 1881 he was married to Miss Hester Savage. One son, T. H. Sloan of Browning, Mo., came of this marriage. He was married again in 1898 to Josie Clark, and to them were born two sons, Kelly of Carlow, Mo., and Otis, who is now in the U. S. navy stationed at San Francisco, Cal. He has resided at Carlow for a long time and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. He was a member of the Christian church for a long time and lived a faithful, consistent life. He leaves to mourn his departure, beside the above named children, one brother, Wm., of Vibbard, Mo., and six sisters, Mrs. Maggie Hays (sic), Mrs. Sarah J. Nelson, Mrs. Mary Lloyd, of Rayville, Mo., Mrs. Serphina Swofford of Gallatin, Barbara Turlage (sic) of California and Mrs. Anna J. Schlicht of Forgan, Okla."
