The deceased spent the days of his youth in and around Ocheyedan, where he attended the Ocheyedan High School. Following his graduation as a member of the class of 1932, he attended Morningside College until accepting a teaching position at Sloan, Iowa.
On the seventh day of September 1941, he was united in hole wedlock with Margaret Niemeier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Niemeier of Holstein, Iowa. To this union were born two children, Mary Deane and Arthur Gilbert.
After his marriage in 1941, Ray turned to carpentry a s an occupation at which trade he worked for brief periods in Sioux City and Alliance, NE, before moving to California in 1942.
The now departed was a chartered member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, San Lorenzo, CA, and remained a faithful member of this church until his death. He served on the building committee for the newly erected edifice and was privileged to see its completion and to be present at the dedicatory services on December 18, 1949, which incidentally were the last services he was able to attend.
For a number of years, Ray suffered from a kidney ailment, which together with other complications resulted in his death in a San Larenzo hospital Friday, March 10, at about 1:30 int he afternoon.
He thus reached the age of 36 years, eight months, and ten days. He leaves to mourn his early departure his bereaved wife, Margaret, two children, Mary Deane and Arthur Gilbert, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ray of Ocheyedan and one sister, Mrs. Melvin Truckenmiller (Marie) of Allendorf.
