Emmett was a wonderful Christian man who was loved by all who knew him. He was married to Cynthia Molly Collins, who died in 1925, followed by Virginia Alberta Webb, who survived him. He and his first wife adopted twin daughters: Annis Margaret and Elizabeth Ann, whose mother died following child-birth. Emmett owned and operated hardware stores in Dexter and Arkansas City, Kansas. He served as an elder in the Church of Christ for many years.
