"It is our sad duty to announce this morning the death of Mr.
Frederick Rule, father of Mr. William Rule, one of the editors of the
Chronicle..... He had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church
since 1832, and during the greatest portion of that period had been an
official member. He always took an active interest in everything
pertaining to the cause of religion, and in the church, class meeting, and
Sabbath school was active and constant. he contributed liberally of his
means to the support of the church. He was an ardent member of the Sons of
Temperance and held a high office in that worthy organization.
Mr. Rule was a modest unassuming man who industriously applied
himself to his agricultural pursuits, and won the love and esteem of all
who knew him, by his kindness of heart and unobtrusive life.He was an
excellent representative of the yeomanry of East Tennessee, a man of
general information, sound judgement and unquestioned integrity. He was an
obliging neighbor, abhorring strife, cherishing the good will of all men,
and ever anxious to promote the happiness and welfare of those about him.
He was so universally esteemed that he was a neighborhood peacekeeper.
Probably no man ever lived in his district who settled so many suits or
difficulties as Mr. Rule."
