Notes for Felectia Edith Fay HARVEY
Edith Felectia Simons, 96, died Feb. 18, 2006, in Trinidad. She was born March 3, 1909, in Spearmore, Okla., to Robert and Bernice (Jollif) Harvey. She was married Oct. 8, 1926, to William L. Simons in Raton.

Her family moved in 1927 to the T.O. Ranch located in the Raton area where Edith's father ran the ranches dairy operation. This is where she met William Simons, whom she married Oct. 8, 1926. From this union they had three children: Katherine, William and Mary. The couple was together for 53 years, before Bill's death in 1980.

She was a hard working woman, even with being a full-time homemaker and mother. She still found time to attend Primero High and graduate in the class of 1939. At the ceremonies her eldest daughter, Katherine, played in the band. While living at the mine camp of Valdez, Colo., she was a member of the ladies first aid team, which captured the State Champion title in 1943. She was one of the original members of the Trinidad Art Guild established in 1973. Some of the companies she worked for were the Fredrick Coal Mine, Jamieson's Department Store and Las Animas County Health Department from which she retired at the age of 62.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Bill and daughters Katherine Johnson and Mary Owen, great-granddaughter Jennifer Coen, brothers Robert and Louis Harvey and sister Ella McCauley.

She is survived by brother Cecil (Rose) Harvey, Gardner, Colo.; daughter-in-law Marge Simons, Trinidad, nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was Feb. 23 at the Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Friday, Feb. 24, at 10:00 a.m. at Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Cook officiating. Burial will follow at the Trinidad Masonic Cemetery. A reception will follow at the First Southern Baptist Church on Santa Fe Trail Drive.

Pallbearers will be Jim Johnson, Dave Simons, John Simons, J.R. Butero, Mark Simons and Ky Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil Harvey, William Butero, Timothy Owen, Matt Johnson, Vince Johnson and John Pitts.

The family has entrusted Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home with the arrangements.

“I am bound to them though I cannot look into their eyes or hear their voices. I honor their history. I cherish their lives.
I will tell their story. I will remember them for I am the result of the very love, struggle, sacrifice and journey of thousands.”
