Notes for Edward Beall MAGRUDER
Edward was the son of Haswell Magruder and his wife, Charity Beall. He married on 23 Oct. 1800 to Ann Hellen who died between 1806 and 1813.
As a widower with 4 young children, he remarried in 1813 and was almost immediately serving in the 1812 war as a Pvt. in Lt. Col. George Beall's Detachment, 34th Regiment of Maryland Infantry of Prince George's Co, Md. In 1814 he was stationed at Nottingham and Upper Marlboro. He also served in Capt. Richard K. Marshall's Detachment, same regiment, stationed at Nottingham.
Edward studied in Maryland, (probably in Baltimore) and
became an Attorney.

Notes for Ann (Spouse 1)
Ann Hellen and Edward Magruder were married 23 October 1800 in Prince George’s County, MD. Some marriage records note her as “Anne” and her surname is often spelled incorrectly in records as “Ellen”, or others. Ann was one of four confirmed offspring, all daughters, of Jesse Hellen who died in Prince George’s County in 1808 at age about fifty-eight, specifically noting Ann Magruder as his daughter in his will of that year. Her mother is unknown, but there is strong circumstantial evidence she was a Mackall, possibly Mary. It is know from other records that she was born in Prince George’s County, but the year unknown, an estimate being about 1779. Her year of death is known only to have been between 1808 and 1813, when Edward remarried.
Her father, Jesse Hellen, was a great grandson of David Hellen (abt 1661-1718) and Susanna Milton (abt 1665-1741) of Calvert County, MD, the New World founders of the Hellen family. His place of burial remains unknown.

Teresa Barron was born in St. John's Parish, Prince George's County, Maryland, the daughter of Oliver Barron and Mary Wilson Barron. She married Edward Magruder on 15 February 1813 Prince George's County. Edward and Teresa were the parents of 8 children. In here later years, she resided with her daughter, Virginia Magruder Howell. She died at Virginia's home in Baltimore and is buried at the family cemetery in Vansville (Beltsville), Prince George's County, Maryland.
