"Dr. John M. Shock is a native of Boone county, Missouri. He is the son of David S. Shock, one of the early and substantial pioneers, a Kentuckian by birth, and a native of Fayette county. He attended Pope's Medical, College in St. Louis, where he graduated in 1858.
Dr. John Shock was married in 1852 to Miss Sallie A. Shely, daughter of Ransom Shely, of Callaway County, Missouri. One child was born of this marriage:
Mattie A. b. 27 July 1874 & died 28 Aug 1955.
Miss Sallie died three years after their marriage.
The doctor chose for his second wife, Miss Catherine Ritchie, of Kentucky.
One daughter was born of this marriage:
Minnie Myrtle b. 7 Feb 1878 & died circa 1960. Catherine died in 1860,
Dr. John Shock was married the third time to Miss Sallie J. M. McQuitty, daughter of George McQuitty, a prominent farmer of Boone county. They had four children by this marriage, one son and three daughters. Dr. Shock was a zealous and influential member of the Baptist church and a teacher in the Walnut Grove Sunday school.

Boone County Woman Succumbs at Age of 83 Years.
Mrs. Sallie J. Shock, 83, died at the home of her son, Virgil Shock, twelve miles northwest of Columbia, this morning at 10 o’clock. Old age and attendant infirmities were the cause of her death. She had been confined to her bed for about three months.
Funeral services will be held at 11 o’clock Friday morning at the Walnut Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. S. S. Keith will conduct the services.
