!1. Will dated 10 Sep 1781, Will probated 19 Nov 1781, Will Book B, pg. 462, Culpeper Co., VA. It appears the couple had no children, as his wife soon remarried, and no children were named in the will.

She was the dau. of Richard Gaines, named in James Jr.'s will. She remarried soon and was named in her father's will (w.d. 27 July 1802, w.p.18 Feb 1805) as Gemima Speak. Another sister, Elizabeth was md. to a Benjamin Thomas in 1779.

Her younger sister, Anne Gaines md. (1) William Botts and (2) Christopher Crigler, the brother of Elizabeth Crow's first husband. Another sister, Elizabeth Gaines was md. to Benjamin Thomas, in 1779 and her maternal aunt, Martha Pendleton, md. Massey Thomas Jr.
Her mother was Jemina Pendleton, second child of Philip Pendleton
(1704-1778) and Martha Ruffin.
