a) A will for James Hurt of Culpeper Co. dated 28 Mar 1785 and probated 15 Jun 1789 names a wife, Sarah, son William and daughters Frances, Anna, Mary and Sarah (deceased). Oscar Hurt claims there was a son, James, who was not named because he was deceased. This will was witnessed by James (x) Crow, Reuben Thomas and John Hume. Will Book C, Pg. 330, Culpeper Co., VA. FHL# 0030932.

b) Virginia Militia and Revolutionary War records show James and his son, James Sr., both served at various times in military excursions of the era. James Jr. appears to have died during one of these campaigns.

c) Aug. 17, 1769, James purchased a tract of land near Robinson River in Culpeper; Deed Bk E pg. 718 Mar. 28, 1770, James patented 269 acres on the south side of a branch of Great Fork Mountain; Deed Bk O, pg. 263. This is the parcel of land that is identified in his son, William's will. d) VA Poll Tax Record 1782-1787 pg. 64 lists James as a taxpayer in Culpeper.

Specific records (christenings, birth records or marriage records) could not be found to verify these points on line of descent, but related records would seem to recommend their acceptance until more specific records become available.
