Ruth C. Briggs, 84, of Smith Road, died Thursday (Jan. 18, 2001) in her home. She was born Jan. 9, 1917, in Olean, the daughter of Bonnie and Bertha Chadwick Fuller. A Cassadaga resident for more than 50 years, she had been employed for more than 15 years as a practical nurse at various facilities, including the former Allen Park Nursing Home of Jamestown, Bitter Sweet Nursing Home of Lakewood and the Cassadaga Nursing Home in Cassadaga. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Wayne J. Briggs, whom she married Jan. 6, 1934; a son, Robert Briggs of Jamestown; five daughters: Norma Shongo of Westfield, Barbara Luczkowiak of Jamestown, Linda Hartman of Holly Hill, Fla., Deborah Briggs of Fredonia and Cynthia Baldridge of Cassadaga; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; five sisters: Margaret Murphy of Florida, Deloris Crandall, Ruby Claypool and Bertha Evanosky, all of Angelica, and Esther Wood of Dalton; and a brother, Francis Fuller of Bolivar. She was preceded in death by three sons: Ronald, Richard and David Briggs; and a daughter, Ellen Farley.

Wayne J. Briggs, 86, of Smith Road, died Saturday (March 10, 2001) in his home. He was born June 12, 1914, in Dunkirk, the son of Hugh and Luva Johnston Briggs. A 54-year-resident of Cassadaga, he had been employed as a millwright for Republic Steel in Buffalo for more than 30 years and a member of the United Steel Workers of America Union. He is survived by a son, Robert Briggs of Jamestown; five daughters: Norma Shongo of Westfield, Barbara Luczkowiak of Jamestown, Linda Hartman of Holly Hill, Fla., Deborah Briggs of Fredonia and Cynthia Baldridge of Cassadaga; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; a brother, Hugh Briggs of Fredonia; and a sister, June Moser of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Ruth C. Fuller Briggs, whom he married Jan. 6, 1934, and who died Jan. 18, 2001; three sons: Ronald, Richard and David Briggs; a daughter, Ellen Farley; a brother, Marlin Briggs; and three sisters: Allene Whitehead, Maxine Ball and Desa Taylor.
