Notes for Mary “Polly” (Spouse 1)
Some dates bring into question the Buckner Russell Sr. family as usually listed as Mary “Polly” Russell. A “Buckner Russell” is mentioned as Mary “Polly” Russell’s father in a few places including the Taylor TUCK book for one.

But if Buckner Russell Sr. is listed as Mary “Polly” Russell’s father, then Rachel Petty could NOT be Mary’s mother for Rachel would have been 64 years old and Buckner would have been 71! Possibly, a 2nd unknown wife, but then that brings into question when Rachel Petty died, for Buckner Russel Sr. would already had a wife (Rachel) who would be too old to have Mary.

Much more likely, I believe, that Buckner Russell Jr. was Mary Polly Russell’s father, for he would have been 29 years old, with the Mary’s mother as yet unknown. Then the ages for Buckner Russell Sr. & Rachel Petty better match an earlier generation, as does Buckner Russell Jr. & an unknown wife’s ages.

RUSSELL is British, means “Red” (hair or face) from Old French.
"Polly" is a nickname for "Mary."

In letter and information sent by James E. Walker Mary Polly Ann Russell’s father listed as Buckner Russell, but no verification or source. He doesn’t know where it came from.118

My sister, Bev Allen is mostly responsible for getting our tree together. She talked to a relative in MO, who actually knew Hiram and Mary and said she would sometimes look with longing at the woods and the people she had left behind but to her credit, she stayed with Hiram. I think that the time when they married was near the time of the “Trail of Tears” so she would have been living “white” by then. Their marriage is listed under Hiram Turk rather than Tuck I think because whoever transcribed the page from vital statistics couldn’t read the writing.443

In every one of her census listings, 1850, 1860, and 1880, Mary Tuck reported that she was born in Kentucky. In 1880 she added that her father was born in Kentucky, and her mother in Virginia. What is the record which says that Mary Tuck was born in Blount County, Tennessee?
While I cannot confirm that Mary was a daughter of Buckner W. Russell of Cole Co., Mo., I note that he did have a daughter born in the period 1820-1825, according to his household listing in the 1830 census. But that girl was not in his household in the 1840 census. Further research is needed in Cole County records to determine identity of Bucker W. Russell's children.
If you want copies of my files on this Russell family, I can provide them as follows:
Buckner W. Russell (ca.1798-1848) of Cole Co., Mo.                1 page of data available
Joseph Russell (ca.1770) of Monroe [old Barren] Co., Ky.Co.     1 page
Buckner Russell (ca.1749-ca.1836) of Va., N.C., Ky., Tenn.      9 pages
Total = 11 pages. I can mail copies to you for $12
