Barbara Joan Hutchins,70, passed away at her home north of Swink on Sept. 14, 2013 after a prolonged illness. She was born April 30, 1943 in Swink to Roy T. and Irene C. (Roser) Hindman. Most recently she had been doing well back home with family, her pet Pumpkin, her reading, gardening and sewing (making quilts for her family) and the Linus Program. Her family was her life.

She graduated from La Junta High School and Otero Junior College with her Registered Nurse Degree in 1987. She married Kenneth W. Hutchins May 5, 1987 in La Junta and resided in Swink.

She worked at Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center for 25 years prior to her retirement in 2012. She left a legacy of medical professionals to her family with 3 generations of nurses. Her oldest daughter Dawn is a Nurse Practitioner (Nurse for 29 years), her granddaughter Mikaela a new RN, Katherine a new Certified NA and a sister-in-law a retired LPN. Nursing was her life and she loved providing care to all her patients.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth W. Hutchins, of their home in Swink; daughters; Dawn (Mark) Evert of Westcliffe, CO, and Penni (Michael) Dziolek of Colorado Springs; sons, Roy (JoAnn) McGuire of Manzanola, James "B.J." McGuire of Rapid City, SD, and Mark (Kelly) McGuire of Cactus, TX & Kim, CO; brother, Jim Hindman of La Junta; sisters, Nancy K. Gebbie of La Junta, and Diane (Harvey) Adkins of La Junta; and special family grandma, best friend to Barbara, Bernice Carlock of Swink. Aunts, Rella Correll of Colorado Springs, Peggy Roser of La Junta, and Easter & Eleanor Roser of California. Father & Mother-in-law Donald & Jane Hutchins of La Junta; Mother & Father-in-law Laura & Clarence Stevenson of Prichett, CO; brother-in-law Donney Hutchins of Denver, CO; sister-in-law Vickie (Bill) Hall of Springfield, CO, Gayle (Steve) Specht, and Brenda and Jay. Uncle, Frank Hutchins, Aunt, Dorothy Sanchez and Kenny's uncle, Bill (Beverly) Hutchins and numerous cousins survive. Barbara had 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren that were the light and joy of her life.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Roy and Irene Hindman, an infant brother, infant son, 3 nephews, 3 grandchildren, 2 nieces and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements .

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at 11:00 am at the Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta with Michael Dziolek officiating, her son-in-law from Colorado Springs. A private inurnment will be at a later date.
