KENNETH "KEN" R. ALLEN
March 24, 1951 ~ January 29, 2013

Kenneth R. Allen was a person of focused purpose and wide-ranging interests. He was a dominant force on the basketball court, both at Occidental College and in recreational settings. He was also an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. He had a hearty laugh, was naturally gregarious, loved music, and routinely led family members in singing southern gospel songs from the piano. He read deeply and widely. Topics ranged from business and economics to literature to theology.

Fluent in the hard sciences, he was also passionate about people-family, friends, and colleagues. He loved teaching adult Sunday school classes as a way of working out how his faith should impact his life and relationships, and helping others do the same. As an entrepreneur and innovator, he was the founder, President and CEO of MetaPower, Inc. He had great enthusiasm for life's adventure.

Ken is survived by his wife, Peggy; three children, Jennifer (Jarod) Sears of Grandview, Missouri, Jacob (Rachel) Allen of Washougal, Washington, and Joel (Sarah) Allen of Vancouver, Washington; five grandchildren; his father and mother, Dr. Robert and Lois Allen of Harrisonville, Missouri, who pastored Churches of the Nazarene that included Camas, Vancouver and Woodland; three brothers, Dr. Bob (Barbara) Allen of Vancouver, Washington, Ron Allen of Bad Berleberg, Germany, and Don (Donna) Allen of Harrisonville, Missouri; sister-in-law, Annette; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His youngest brother, Randy, preceded Ken in death in 2008.

Ken's unexpected death on January 29, 2013, is grieved by those who knew him but this grief is tempered by confidence that he has taken his place in heaven's grandstand, where he actively encourages us who remain to run with perseverance the race that he has successfully completed.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the Hillcrest Church of the Nazarene, 14410 NW 21st Ave, Vancouver, Washington. Viewings were held on Friday, February 8, 2013 and Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 1101 NE 112th Ave. in Vancouver. A private graveside preceded the memorial service.

A memorial fund in Ken's name has been established at Real Life Community Church of the Nazarene at 2202 SE Bella Vista Road, Vancouver, WA 98683 or online at www.seekreallife.com/giving.php.

I will tell their story. I will remember them for I am the result of the very love, struggle, sacrifice and journey of thousands.”
