Obituary for Lillian M. Root
Lillian M. Root, 93, of Altamont and a former Parsons resident, died at 5:55 p.m., Thursday, October 8, 2015 at the Elmhaven East Nursing Home in Parsons.
She was born on March 25, 1922 at Hannibal, Missouri to Hiram Hubert and Silvia (Reno) Forshey. She grew up at Parsons and attended Parsons Schools. She taught at country schools near Parsons for several years.
She and Leroy Root were married on July 22, 1939 at Kansas City, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 1, 1992.
She lived in Parsons until 1957 when she moved to Wellington where she lived until 1960 when she moved back to Parsons. She worked at the Labette County Medical Center as a Nurse’s Aide. She later lived at Lake McKinley and currently resided in Altamont. Lillian enjoyed embroidery, painting, and cherish spending time with her family.
She is survived by a son, Charles Root, and his wife, Inez of Parsons; four daughters, Lula M. “Corky” Hosfelt, and her husband, Emmet of Galesburg, Aurelia “Dutch” Mapel, and her husband, J.C. of Olathe, Leona Hamilton, and her husband, Leroy of Altamont, Loretta “Kay” McCready, and her husband, George of Parsons; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Forshey and two sisters, Mabel Meigs and Ruby Pritchet.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, October 12, 2015 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Lyle and Millie Fergus officiating. Burial will follow in the Springhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 Sunday evening. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association and these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home 112 N. 26th St., P.O. Box 942.

Lillian, age 93, died at Elmhaven East in Parsons. She was the daughter of Hiram Hubert and Silvia (Reno) Forshey. She married Leroy Root on July 22, 1939, in Kansas City, Missouri. She is survived by her children, Charles Root, Lula Hosfelt, Aurelia Mapel, Leona Hamilton, and Loretta McCready, 14 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her siblings, Howard Forshey, Mabel Meigs, and Ruby Pritchet. Services were held at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
