In California there are some places named Trabuco. The story goes, one of the soldiers with Don Gaspar de Portola lost his blunderbuss (a gun not unlike those carried by the Pilgrims) in the area in 1769 when they were exploring. The Spanish word for blunderbuss is Trabuco. The soldier lost his gun in a canyon, hence the canyon was named "Trabuco". Subsequently, a peak and then a Forest District took the name too, pronounced "tra-boo-co".

The origin of the word most likely is from Latin from which both Spanish and Italian derive. The double "c" is probably the Italian--there are very few "cc" words in Spanish.281

The Historical Research Center Family Name History - Trabucco
The origin of the Italian surname Trabucco should be placed between the fifteenth and sixteenth century; the surname in fact is the same name of a weapon, the “trabucco” or the “blunderbuss” which was invented and used around that period. The final letter “o” of the surname denotes the plural form, illustrating the process of the surname having been passed on from one generation to the next. The “trabucco” does not exist anymore in Italian, instead is used the term “trabocchetto”, which has the same origin, plus the suffix “-etto” and which means “trap” or “pitfall”. The surname Trabucco, deriving from the name of a weapon, indicates that the original bearer was a soldier, or maybe a hunter, and the name must be considered or occupational origin. In the Middle Ages the pattern serving as a basis for fixed Italian surnames was based on paternity., the name of the father being the reference for identification, but before the advent of a structured system of surnames, a man was most conveniently identified by his occupation or trade.
As the closest variant to the surname Trabucco, the “Dizionario Storico Blasonico”, a compilation of the Italian nobility, mentions two families by the name of Trabucco, one from Sicily and one from Piedmont. The earliest references to the surnames, mention the family from Piedmont as rich landowners in the fourteenth century. Later, one Gian-Antonio di Bernardino Trabuccowas the minister for the finances of the kingdom of Savoy.

Coroner Plans Autopsy
Woman Dies Following Auto Crash Near Home in Brookside
Mrs. Mary A. Trabucco, 65, of 1814 Cedar avenue in Brookside died at her home shortly after a traffic accident on Colorado Highway 115, near Cañon City Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. Trabucco was riding in a car driven by her husband, John Battista Trabucco, 71, which was involved in a two-car crash near the Trabucco home about four miles east of Cañon City.
According to the deputy county cornorer, Dr. Corbin Robinson, an autopsy was scheduled to be performed Monday afternoon to determine the cause of death. Dr. Robinson has called in the staff pathologist for local hospitals to make the the examination. An inquest is pending the result of the autopsy, Deputy District Attorney Robert Fredrickson said.
Turning Off Highway
Trabucco was traveling west on Colorado 115 when he slowed to make a left turn off the highway into his private driveway. Another car, driven by Pvt. Minor B. Elam, 22, of Fort Carson was also going west and hit the left rear of Trabucco's co's car, according to the accident report made by State Patrolman Robert Johnson.
The Trabucco car caromed off a nearby building and spun around and was struck again on the right side by the Elam auto.
Mrs. Trabucco left the car after the crash and walked into her home. About 20 minutes later she collapsed and died. Trabucco was apparently not injured and Elam suffered only minor bumps. Another passenger in the Elam car, Thomas Hallameck, eck, 18, also Fort Carson had a cut face and head injury. He was held overnight at St. Thomas More hospital.
The Trabucco vehicle was damaged to an extent of about $150, the patrolman estimated, and damage to Elam's car was about $300.
Native of Italy
Mrs. Trabucco was born on Dec. 8, 1892, in Italy and came to Fremont county at an early age. She was married to John Trabucco in Cañon City in 1909. They have lived at 1814 Cedar for 45 years.
Surviving along with her husband are two children, Matilda and Pete, and five grandchildren and one great grandchild. There is also a sister surviving, who lives in Italy.
Funeral services will be announced at a later date. Cervi's Cañon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.285

Woman's Death After Crash Attributed To Heart Attack
The result of an autopsy performed Monday afternoon showed that the cause of death of Mrs. Mary A. Trabucco of the Brookside area was a heart attack, according to Deputy County Coroner Corbin Robison.
Mrs. Trabucco was the passenger in a vehicle involved in a two-car crash Sunday afternoon about 20 minutes before she collapsed and died. The deputy coroner reported that the injuries and shock resulting from the accident could have have contributed to the death but did not directly cause it.
Mrs. Trabucco was riding in a car driven by her husband which was hit by another car from the rear. The driver of the other vehicle was Pvt. Minor B. Elam, 22, of Fort Carson.
No Inquest Planned
On the basis of the autopsy, Deputy District Attorney Robert Fredrickson said no inquest will be held. Since the sutopsy showed the accident did not directly cause Mrs. Trabucco's death, Fredrickson said the only charges which have been been brought against Elam are driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license.
Soldier Fined, Jailed
Elam appeared before Justice of the Peace John I. Williams Tuesday morning and was found guilty on both charges.
Judge Williams fined Elam $200 and also sentenced him to jail for 90 days for drunken driving, Elam was fined $100 for driving with a suspended license, the minimum fine for the charge under the state's amended safety responsibility law. Elam Elam entered a plea of guilty to drunken driving and innocent to driving with a suspended license. He was also assessed $9 in court costs.
Patrolman Robert Johnson reported on what his investigation of the accident showed and the deputy district attorney was also present at the hearing before Judge Williams.286

Though I had only recently turned 7, I remember her in the kitchen. I certainly remember all her great food. The scrambled eggs, the bread, the coffee, the polenta, it was all great. And fresh.

And I clearly remember the night she died. We were eating at The Host. They had looked all over the valley for Dad and found us there. We immediately took off over North Creek and got there. There were lots of cars and people. Grandma was laid out in the middle of the floor in the living room with lots of old people sitting around the edges of the room. Pat and I sat in the room with the dryer on that sleeper couch. Every once in a awhile Pat would start crying and I'd say "It's alright Pat, thing will be OK." and then I'd cry some too. I can see that night so clearly. and I remember a few days later when we went up and Aunt Kay bought me some little toy wood skis, a sad Christmas all around.288

Grandma Trabucco’s Recipe for Meat Ravioli
My Mom never wrote down any of her recipes, but I watched her make her food often. I know the ingredients that she used, but I don't know the proportions. For the filling, she used whatever meats she had previously roasted and then froze for making raviolis. She usually mixed a couple of different meats such as pork roast, beef roast, and chicken. She used at least one egg, some canned spinach (drained), and cracker crumbs. She ground all this together and also added salt and pepper.

For the dough, she made regular pasta dough with eggs and flour. She made a meat-based sauce (usually beef or pork roast) with tomatoes, and topped it all off with plenty of Parmesans cheese and a little pepper.

I hope this helps. I wish I could tell you more, but I now also make them occasionally just from memory and sight/feel of the meat.290

Some surnames, like Seren in Alpette, were so common, that people added suffixes to distinguished particular families. Sometimes they were quite distinct families which claimed no kinship with each other, like the two utterly distinct Sandretto families in Pont Canavese. Sometimes they were offshoots of the same family. In later records the usage tended to become standardised but not always. A record could appear under the surname + suffix, the surname, or the suffix. I have indicated the surname + suffix here wth an equal sign (=) though it is not used in the records: hence Seren=Piocca. Piocca is not part of Antonia's given name, but the suffix of her surname. Goiettina is a particularly evolved form of this. It starts out in the early Alpette records as Goglio=Tina, then by pronuncation got contracted to Goiettina. [It is ordinarily spelled Gojettina in the records.]142

Goettina, Antonia Maria: Birth record is attached. I read it as 6th of Dec not the 8th (please double check). I'm also curious about the order of her given names if it is Antonia Maria or Maria Antonia.  I'm also listing the image number in the catalogue because when you send to translation sites often they will want a link instead of an image. It is image 14/118 within that image range. If you go to that image on the FS site, you can copy and paste the URL directly into your translation request which will bring the person directly to the image to translate. They can then easily enlarge the image to facilitate their work.86
