Notes for Martha Ellen (Spouse 2)
Martha Blackburn was the daughter of
John Ashley Blackburn and Lucy Caroline
'Hickman' Blackburn.

She was the granddaughter of Elijah
Blackburn and Margaret Matilda 'Rutledge'
Blackburn.

Martha was born in March, 1852 in Tennessee.
Her father, John, served in the Union, Co. F,
46th Mo.Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War.
He was present at the battle of Pea Ridge
Arkansas.

She was married to Lemuel D. Long
in 1869, at the age of 17. Lemuel
was 19 years old.

They had two children during this
union:
Benjamin Long
Charles B. Long

Benjamin and Charles are both
buried here in Rose Hill, where their
mother and her parents are buried.

The marriage ended in divorce on 3 Nov.,
1885 in Greene Co., Missouri. In
the 1880 census, Martha is listed in
her father's household with her
two son's, Benjamin, age 9 and
Charles, age 6. They are living
next door to Rutherford Long and
family. Rutherford was the son of
Lemuel's older brother, Rev. George
Long 111.

Martha later married Rufus M. C. Lindsey.
She was 35 at the time of this marriage.
They were married on 5 Nov. 1885.
They were the parents of two children:
James E.
Lucy G.

Martha was married for the final
and last time. At this time it
isn't know if the couple had
children?
She was married to James M. Ryan in
Polk Co., Missiouri on 27 Sept. 1912.

More research
will be done and more info added
at a later date.

NOTE: I want to thank Cathy for the
given name of Martha's husband, Rufus,
and the date the couple married. Also
for the given name of James, and their
wedding date.

“I am bound to them though I cannot look into their eyes or hear their voices. I honor their history. I cherish their lives.
I will tell their story. I will remember them for I am the result of the very love, struggle, sacrifice and journey of thousands.”
