Domenico Trabucco travel information
From Bruno De Marco. This is his grandfather Domenico Trabucco’s travel information when he arrived in Canada. A few interesting things about this document:
1. He arrived in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. on Dec 5, 1920 on the S.S. Melita as a 3rd class passenger.
2. Under race it lists "Northern Italian."
3. It lists his father’s name as Giorgio.
4. It lists my Grandpa John’s address in Canon City, Colorado as his destination, rather than some other relative who might have been closer to him. Though his brother Giovanni had already died here 2 years earlier and is buried next to them near Florence, Colorado.
5. He came with $25.00. Similar to my Grandpa who came with $30. both of which were a lot of money in those days.
6. He listed as “Indefinite" as how long he was staying in America.
Domenico returned to Italy in 1928 and married.
CF& I
Pueblo was founded in 1842 as a frontier outpost where the Arkansas & Fountain Rivers meet by mountain men, who like the Indians, favored its mild winter climate. Near, but not in the mountains, it’s where minerals of the Rocky Mountains were processed. CF&I’s predecessor was founded in 1872 ”to purchase lands, minerals springs, coal and iron and other mines and quarries in Colorado Territory” to establish “colonies, towns, coal mining, iron making and manufacturing works.” Owned by Rockefeller and Gould, while Guggenheim had a smelter nearby, Pueblo was a source of much of their great wealth. Many men in our family worked at this behemoth company which had the mill, railroad and mines across Colorado and the surrounding states. Workers came from all over the world sustaining over 30 foreign language newspapers. Today EVRAZ makes the world’s longest rails, while the Federal Test Track Center nearby tests high-speed trains and just south is the world’s largest manufacture of windmills.
Domenico Trabucco passport application & letter
Domenico Trabucco passport application & letter. Page 1 was an application for a passport. While page 2 and 3 was a letter supporting this application. Giovanni B[attista] “John” Trabucco is mentioned on page 2 along with where he lived in Canon City, Colorado. Also of interest in the last paragraph of page 2 it mentions his possibly working for the Colorado Fuel & Iron Company which had the mines around Florence and Canon City. Domenico Trabucco must have needed to tell who he was traveling to meet in America and his prospects for employment when he got there.

I will tell their story. I will remember them for I am the result of the very love, struggle, sacrifice and journey of thousands.”
