MARTHA J. KOVACH

Funeral services for Martha J. Kovach were conducted Saturday, Jan. 25, at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. H. Eugene Warren officiated. Interment was in the Paul J. Wataha Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Bill Reinhart, Charles Reinhart, Mike Allen, Mark Kurtz, Todd Horn, Ron Young, Dick Young and Mike Kovach.

Mrs. Kovach, 67, of 1325 Cottonwood Street in Rock Springs, died at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County where she had been a patient for the past six days. A long-time resident of Rock Springs, Mrs. Kovach had been in ill health the past three years.

She was born in Sheridan County on March 26, 1918, the daughter of the late Bertram A. and Florence V. Mumma Brooks. She attended schools in Sheridan and graduated from high school there. She married Frank Kovach in Sheridan on Feb. 2, 1946.

Mrs. Kovach attended the University of Redlands, Calif. and the University of Wyoming, where she received bachelors and masters degrees in elementary education.

Mrs. Kovach taught schools in Ranchester, Monarch, the girls school in Sheridan, Reliance and Rock Springs.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Retired Teachers Association, the Wyoming Education Association and the Young at Heart Senior Citizens Association.

Survivors include her husband, Frank of Rock Springs; her stepmother, Fannie M. Brooks of Tinley Park, Ill.; one son, Mark Kovach of Ellicott City, Md.; two daughters, Kathy Kovach and Mrs. Paul (Sally) Wonnacott, both of Rock Springs; one brother, Bert Brookes of Dayton; one sister, Jessie Reinhart of Rock Springs; one stepsister, Geraldine A. Lokane of Alsip, Ill.; one step-brother, James M. Cox of Buffalo; three grandchildren, Lauren Kovach of Ellicott City; Clint and Jeremiah Wonnacott, both of Rock Springs, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kovach was preceded in death by one brother who died in infancy.

FRANK KOVACH

Funeral services for Frank Kovach were conducted at 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 13, 1998, at the First Baptist Church, C and Pine Streets, Rock Springs. The Rev. Steven Todd officiated. Interment was in the Paul J. Wataha Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Dutch Menghini, Bill Reinhart, Church Reinhart, John L. Frullo, John Kovach Jr., and Harry Horn.

Kovach, 82, of 1325 Cottonwood Drive, Rock Springs, died at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 1998, at the home of his daughter. A lifetime resident of Rock Springs, Kovach had been in ill health for the past six weeks.

He was born in Reliance on Feb. 27, 1916, the son of the late Joseph and Frances Berk Kovach. He attended schools in Reliance and was a graduate of Reliance High School with the Class of 1934. He attended the Utilities Engineering Institute in Chicago.

Kovach married the former Martha Jean Brooks on Feb. 2, 1946, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 22, 1986. He was a retired coal miner who worked at the Reliance mines, he owned and operated the Arctic Circle Drive In for many years, he worked as a bus driver for School District No. 1 for many years and retired in 1984. He also was a gas truck driver and a mechanic.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Fraternal Order of the Eagle Aerie No. 151, the Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Senior Citizens Center in Rock Springs. He was also a fisherman, hunter and overall outdoorsman.

Kovach is survived by one son, Mark Kovach of Ellicott City, Md., one daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Paul Wonnacott of Rock Springs; one brother, Henry Kovach of Rock Springs; two sisters, Annie Young of Reliance and Jennie Brower of Yakima, Wash.; six grandchildren, Brittany, Nathan and Clint Wonnacott, all of Rock Springs; Lauren and Grant Kovach of Ellicott City and Jeremiah Wonnacott of Melbourne, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathleen Kovach, one brother, John “Ginger” Kovach, and two sisters, Fannie Frullo and Mary Kovach.
