Notes for Richard J. ROGERS
Richard was the son of Sally Sumner and William Rogers, the husband of Eliza Jane Goodin, and the father of Richard E Rogers. During the Civil War he served the Union as a Private in Company F of the 7th Regiment of Kentucky Infantry.
He died on 5 Feb 1862 in the hospital at Camp Calvert, Kentucky, according to his Casualty Sheet in his military records (added to this memorial). Under Union Civil War Camps in Kentucky (https://sites.rootsweb.com/~kywayne/union_cw_camps.html) is "Camp Calvert: In the Cumberland Gap area, location undetermined." That area would have been in Bell County. According to documentation regarding the delivery of his military headstone, he was originally buried in a village cemetery in Laurel County near Bald Rock. However, the cemetery was moved to Rest Haven in Corbin, Kentucky, during lake building in Laurel County in the 1970's.
