Harold W. Ryan, 89, Melvern, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Ryan had farmed. He worked for the Highway Department while he lived in Dighton. He also had worked for the Carnation Milk Co. in Eldorado Springs, Mo., where he was a Teamster union laborer until he retired.

He was born Feb. 16, 1912, in Olivet, the son of Gilbert and Ida Shirley Ryan. He was raised in the Melvern community and lived in the Kansas City area for many years before he moved back to Melvern in 1997.

He married Ann Casey in 1942. They were divorced. He married Dorothy Price on Jan. 19, 1993, near Lyndon. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Robert Ryan, Kansas City, Mo., and Bob Alley, Melvern, Melvern; a daughter, Nancy Alley, Melvern; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were Saturday at Melvern United Methodist Church. Burial was in Melvern Cemetery. Feltner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Entre Nous Library Fund or the Melvern Community Building Alumni Room and sent in care of the funeral home.
