Iva Jean (Jeannie) Owings passed away Saturday, October 31, 2015, in Duncan, OK.
Jeannie was born to Ida Cleo Bullock, Cothern and Alfred Jackson (Slick) Cothern, July 8, 1927, in Portales, NM.
On May 7, 1947, Jeannie graduated from Tucumcari High School and married the love of her life, Lloyd Dean Wharton. Two sons were born to them, Michael Dean (mickey) Wharton and Terry Wayne Wharton. Jeannie lost Lloyd in 1962 and Mickey in 1965.
She married Bill Owings in 1965 and Sharonda Jean, Willis Burton and niece Melinda Cothern were added to the family. Bill passed away in 1991. Jeannie lived at Wilkins Nursing Center in Duncan, OK the past 5 years.
Jeannie is survived by Terry (Debbie) Wharton, Sharonda (Jeff) Irving, Willis (Becky) Owings, Melinda Cothern; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 of her 8 siblings, Wanda Fish, Johnny Cothern and Ricci Johnson.
Graveside services will be held Friday, November 6, 2015, at 10:00 am at Tucumcari Memorial Cemetery. Family Visitation will be at the First Baptist Church after a graveside service.
Services are handled by Carter-Smart Funeral Home in Duncan, OK 580-255-2766 and by Dunn Funeral Home in Tucumcari , NM.
