Notes for Betty Fern JOHN
Betty Fern John was born June 6, 1936 in Kline, Colorado to Roy Bruce John and Viola Fern Mulnix. When she was 9 mo. old her family moved to Naturita, Colorado and then to Nucla, Colorado where she would spend the greater part of her life. With a few years spent elsewhere. She went to school in Nucla from the 1st grade through the 11th and graduated in Mancos. Colorado. She attended one semester at BYU. Betty met the love of her life, Tom Dan Davis, while she was working as a telephone operator in Dove Creek. They were married on June 10, 1956. She gave birth to 5 children: Bruce, Zanna, Jay, Nancy, and Curtis. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, and was baptized October 7th 1944 in Naturita Creek near the bridge that is there today. For over 30 years- from long before it was even allowed - she served and loved the Boy Scouts of America. She also served as the secretary in the Second Park Sewing Club from 1978 until 2014 sending out over 5,000 cards to the area residents. Other than a few months when her family lived in Idaho, she never lived more than 3 hours away from the Lone Cone which she dearly loved - it always meant she was home. She died April 21, 2015 just a little more than 15 years after Tom Dan Davis, her husband of almost 44 years. They were joined together for eternity in the Monticello Temple in 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers David and Edward John, sister Dorothy Galyean, her loving husband Tom Davis and granddaughter Cassie Kay Davis.

“I am bound to them though I cannot look into their eyes or hear their voices. I honor their history. I cherish their lives.
I will tell their story. I will remember them for I am the result of the very love, struggle, sacrifice and journey of thousands.”
