Stapleton Rites

WEBB CITY, Mo. — Services for James R. Stapleton, 40 years old, 410 North Walker street, who died Tuesday night in Jane Chinn hospital, will be at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon in Johnston-Simpson chapel. The Rev, M . Alsobrook and the Rev. 0. D. Samuel will officiate. Burial will be in Carterville cemetery.

Mr, Stapleton died as a result of injuries which he received in a one-car accident east of Oronogo January 10 when his car crashed into a dirt embankment at the junction o f county routes M M 1a n d D.

Mrs. Viola May Stapleton, 70, 530 E. Vine St., Webb City, Missouri, died at 6:35 p.m. Friday, September 21, 1990, in the emergency room at Freeman Hospital, Joplin, Missouri, after suffering an apparent heart attack at her home.

Viola May (Ryan) Stapleton was born on October 25, 1919, in Carterville, Missouri. She was the daughter of Homer Lee Ryan (1885–1937) and Ethel Elizabeth (Yeager) Ryan (1893–1957). She was a lifetime area resident. She was a member of the Nazarene Church.

She married James Richard Stapleton on August 26, 1940 in Jasper County, Missouri. He preceded her in death on January 17, 1961.

Survivors include three daughters, Blenda Asbell, Webb City, Cheryl Choate, Carl Junction, and Carroll Farmer, Joplin; four sons, Larry Stapleton, Jim Stapleton and Jack Stapleton all of Webb City, and David Stapleton, Joplin; a sister, Alice Hatfield, Webb City; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Proceeding her in death were her parents; her husband; two sons, Jesse James Richard (1941–1955), and Jerry Lee Stapleton (1943–1943).

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 25, 1990, at Simpson Funeral Home. The Rev. Ronald Pankey will officiate. Burial will be in Webb City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ray Dickson, Bill Etcheson, Steve Stapleton, Tony Stapleton, Walt Stapleton and Jim Stapleton.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
