I will now give my recollection of Jacob Shock, who married Mary, a daughter of Benjamin Green, who lived about the mouth of Laurel creek on Elk river above Sutton. Jacob Shock came to Steer Creek and settled at the mouth of what is known as Shock's Mill run, where Rosedale now is, about the year of 1825, whose children were Robert who married Margaret Stump a daughter of Michael Stump Jr., Elizabeth, Sarah who married Archie Boggs, a son of James Boggs of Elk river, a son of the old original Charley Boggs, referred to in the onset of this narration. Alexander, whore wife was Eliza Stamp, a daughter of Absolom Stump Sr. Mary married Miller Jake Stump, a son of Absolom Stump Sr. Rachael who was Melville Stump's second wife, he being a son of Jacob Stump Sr. Eli whose wife was Suzannar, Jacob Stump Sr's second (daughter. Mariah married Alexander Meadows. Jacob who married Jemima Boggs, a sister to my first wife. Talitha who married Warren Bourn and Perry who married Druzilla Stout, a daughter of Samuel Stout of Harrison County.

Charles was a son of James Charles Boggs, I and Margaret Jane Sharp. He married Mary Clendennin Boggs in 1776. in Greenbrier County, Virginia. She was a daughter of James Clendennin and Margaret Anderson. (Her Grandfather was Charles Clendenin in which Charleston West Virginia was named after)
Charles Clendenin (1712-1790)
In 1774, Charles served nine months in the VA Militia in the Point Pleasant, VA area. He and four brothers were in the battle of Point Pleasant. On March 1, 1776, Charles volunteered as a scout and Indian spy for a 12 month tour with Captain Matthew Arbuckle. He was stationed at Point Pleasant, and was discharged there after his tour ended. On May 1, 1777, he volunteered for a second 12 month tour and was under the command of Captain Zera Coombs. He was discharged at the end of this second tour. He was granted a pension October 4, 1833.
They lived first in Greenbrier County and then in that part of Kanawha County VA that eventually became Braxton County, WV. On October 4, 1833, Charles appeared before a Justice of the Peace in Nicholas County VA (WV), and gave a declaration in order to obtain a pension as a veteran of the Revolution. He was refused because his claim was drawn by pension speculator W.G. Singleton, and service was not proved.

Notes for Mary (Spouse 1)
Mary Clendenin, a daughter of James and Margaret (Anderson) Clendenin, was born in Greenbrier County, (W) Virginia in 1761 and died in Roane County, (W) Virginia in 1853. She married Charles Francis Boggs in 1776/7. Charles, a son of James Charles and Margaret Jane (Sharp) Boggs, was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania in 1754 and died in Braxton County (W) Virginia in 1836/7. He removed with his family to Augusta County, Virginia in 1762 and to Greenbrier County (W) Virginia in 1771.
After the death of her husband, she removed to the home of her granddaughter Miriam (Boggs) Griffith, (a daughter of her son James Clendenin Boggs), as seen on the 1850 Kanawha County, (W) Virginia Census.
Update 14 Jan 2023 - Original death year and place was 1853, Newton, Roane County, (West) Virginia. Source: Descendants of James Boggs by Ruth Hall --- I believe this is wrong, as there was a Mary Clendenin who died in 1853 in Roane - Source: Edmund West, comp.. Family Data Collection - Deaths --- her name would be Mary Boggs as she was a widow. --- Also, there was a Mary Boggs who died 18 Jun 1853 who was a daughter of Archibald H Boggs. That Mary is NOT this Mary. That Mary is a great-granddaughter of this Mary.
Note: Mary did NOT have a middle name Rebecca. Please do not suggest this in the Edit tab, there is NO record of a middle name for Mary. She DID NOT marry after her husband, Charles passed away. I've come to realize that she is confused with a Mary Rebecca Clendenning/Clendenin who married William Sympson on 1 Jan 1790, Virginia according to the "Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution". According to Vi Ringo, who submitted on 12 Aug 2010, her father was John Clendennin. Thank you (CSBB 20 Jul 2022)
Her grandfather was Charles Clendenin from which Charleston West Virginia was named from. He was the first person to die at a Fort Lee/Fort Clendenin to protect the settlers from Indians.
According to the Clendenin History mentioned under William Glendining, Charles Clendenin's four sons, George, William, Robert and Alexander founded and help settle Charlestown, West Virgina.
