Word comes from upper North River of the drowning of Mrs. T. L. Burke, a pioneer of the section. Mr. Burke is in very feeble health and Mrs. Burke arose early Monday (May 16, 1998) morning to draw water for cooking purposes. As she did not return in a reasonable time, Mr Burke sought and found her lying face downward in about 12 inches of water. Mrs. Burke was subject to fainting spells and it is supposed she fainted while stooping forward to dip up water with the above fatal result.
Mrs. Burke was about 35 (born 1863) years of age and leaves
a son about eight years of age and an aged and infirm husband
to mourn her loss. - Reprint from Willapa Pilot.
