Freida Lorene Gould
OCT. 16, 1915 - OCT. 5, 2006
Freida Lorene Gould passed away October 5, 2006 following complications from a fall. She was 90 years old.
Mrs. Gould was born in Springfield, Mo. to Deitha and Claude Tuck. Hers was a musical family. She learned to love and play music at an early age. She became an accomplished violinist, playing at local events and on the radio to help finance her college studies. She graduated from Southwest Missouri State College in 1938, with a major in music education. Her first job was as a band teacher in the little town of Morrisville, Missouri. While there she met her future husband, Warren Gould. They eloped on Oct 7, 1940. They kept their marriage a secret, as teachers were not allowed to be married at that time. She revealed their marriage just before a major music production the following spring, knowing that the program couldn't be put on without her. In later years she taught elementary school and worked as a librarian at a junior high school.
The Gould family moved from the Midwest to Southern California in 1958. Mrs. Gould remained there after her husband's death, but in 1999 moved to the Pensacola area to be near her family. She resided at Azalea Trace, where she met many wonderful people. She became a member of St. Luke's Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Karan Hoffman and her husband Warren Gould. She is survived by her daughter Tanya Nelson, and son-in-law Lauren of Gulf Breeze, granddaughters Kylie Nelson, of Jacksonville, FL and Tristan Peacock and her husband Clint of Pensacola. She is remembered also by her extended family, Connie Gould, Kathleen and Owen Crain, Wauneta and Frank Costello, nieces and nephews, and by her Navy family.
Mrs. Gould was an extraordinary lady. She was always a positive person, looking at the possibilities in life rather than the obstacles. She was a firm but loving parent who showed how to live by example. She was especially compassionate toward animals. It was said that in the lotto of life, her pets hit the jackpot.
A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at 2:00 p.m, in the Azalea Trace auditorium, 10,100 Hillview Dr. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a local animal shelter or to Bravo for Kids, Inc. (c/o Dollarhide's Music Center, 41 Palafox Place, Pensacola, FL 32502.) This organization provides musical instruments to those who are not financially able, and to area middle schools.
The family would like to thank all of her caregivers at Azalea Trace, and also the nurses and staff at West Florida Hospital, particularly the ICU.
HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements. Pensacola News Journal 10/2006
