DEATH CLAIMS GEORGE M. BROWN

George M. Brown, prominent banker and landowner, died at his home here last Thursday night after a prolonged illness. Mr. Brown was 76 years old.
He was born in Richlands, the son of pioneer settlers of this section. His parents were the late Patton and Mary Jane Steele Brown.
Mr. Brown was a successful farmer and served as president of the Richlands National Bank from 1916 until 1938, when his health began to fail. Since that time, he has been retired.
He was first married to Miss Belle Hurt, who died in 1926.
Later he was married to Mrs. Jennie B. Repass, who survives him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived also by one son, Eldridge Brown, U.S. Army, stationed at Camp Beall, Calif., and five sisters, Mrs. Ella M. Weddington, of Coal Run, Ky., Mrs. Rosa E. McKenry, of Lynchburg, Mrs. Florence Crabtree, Mrs. Narcie B. Fletcher, and Mrs. Lena Carter, all of Richlands. Several nieces and nephews survive also.
Funeral services were held for him at Layman's Chapel on Sunday afternoon with Rev. Perry Herndon, Rev. H. B. Abshire, and Rev. Nelson Barker officiating. Interment was in Hankins cemetery. Farmer Funeral Home was in charge.
