Steven Joel Schroeder was born March 6, 1955, the son of Wilferd and Arlene Schroeder. He died Thursday, February 10, 2005 at Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, at the age of forty-nine.
Steve was born in Denison, Iowa and was educated in the Charter Oak-Ute Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1973. He continued his education at Iowa State University, majoring in marketing. After college, he was employed at Jacards Jewelers in Omaha, Nebraska and later at their other locations in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Louisville, Kentucky and Dayton, Ohio. Steve was blessed with two children, Jacqueline, and Chris who were the world to him. After he and the children moved back to Iowa, he began working for Insul-8 Corporation in Harlan, and later transferred to their Omaha office and purchased his home in Minden, Iowa. At the time of his death, Steve was employed as a salesperson for Dultmeier Sales in Omaha.
He was a very loving father, son, brother and uncle who cared very much for his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He believed in finishing everything he started and taught his children to do the same. In his spare time, he enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, cooking, hunting, carpentry, and was an all around handyman, remodeling his Minden home. He was an outstanding high school athlete and was involved in many sports including football, basketball and track. In his adult years, Steve was an avid golfer and would enjoy a game of volleyball and basketball whenever time permitted.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Amanda Schroeder, and Henry and Dorothy Schroeder, his mother, Arlene; and one sister, Lisa in infancy. He is survived by his children, Jacqueline Nicole of Iowa City, Iowa, and Christopher of Council Bluffs, Iowa; his father, Wilferd of Denison; two brothers, Michael and his wife, Sandra of Coralville, Iowa; and Mark of Council Bluffs; two sisters, Lora Heath and her husband, Ben; and Denise Wooten and her husband, Garrett, both of Omaha, Nebraska; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak, Iowa. Dr. Richard Shaffer officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Charter Oak. Musical selections by Charlotte Church were played. Those serving as pallbearers were Scott Robinson, Steve LaMountain, Garrett Wooten, Dave Stewart, Chris Keller and Ben Heath.
