Notes for Harold Gene (Spouse 1)
Harold Gene Brakebill passed away on December 28, 2017 after a brief illness at the age of 95.

Gene was born and raised in rural Blount County, and earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1944. He then served his country by applying his engineering skills at the Oak Ridge National Laboratories for several years. In the late 1940's he began work as an engineer at the Fulton Division of the Robertshaw Controls Company in Knoxville, where he remained until his retirement.

For 63 years he shared his life with his beloved wife Nan, who preceded him in death in 2016, and he was a loving father to his daughters Anne and Susan.

In his retirement years, Gene became passionate about family history research and was a valued resource to distant relatives around the country who sought out his help.

He was an active member of Concord Presbyterian Church for many decades, and as a self- taught singer with a resonant bass voice, loved singing in the church choir.

Gene is survived by his daughter Susan Thompson and his son-in-law James Thompson Jr. of Corryton TN, daughter Anne Tiura of Seattle, WA and grandson Joel Tiura, also of Seattle.

Buried next to Nan at Berry Highland West, 9913 Sherrill Blvd., in Knoxville. A memorial service celebrating his life was held at Concord Presbyterian Church Jan 2.

On Find A Grave.

“I am bound to them though I cannot look into their eyes or hear their voices. I honor their history. I cherish their lives.
I will tell their story. I will remember them for I am the result of the very love, struggle, sacrifice and journey of thousands.”
