Notes for Daniel TRIGG
He was born in 1650 according to the U.S. & International Marriage Records 1560-1900; however, this birth year may be based on his age at the time he married rather than an actual birth year, so circa 1650 may be more accurate. He immigrated to America before 1663, settling in Virginia. He married first to Susannah Johns. He married second to a woman named Mary [Tidewater to Texas cites her death date as 29 January 1716-1717, but that death date was not for this Mary but rather for Mary, the daughter of Abraham and the granddaughter of Daniel]. Daniel was baptized as an adult on 24 January 1713 at Christ Church Episcopal Church in Christ Church Parish in Middlesex County, Virginia. He was buried on 15 August 1716. There is no records that prove Daniel was buried in this cemetery, but based on the events in his life within this church parish, it would seem reasonable to assume he was also buried here. The historian of the Christ Church states "We have no location data on earlier burials before 1843. The vast majority of headstones are from the later half of the 20th century. Your ancestor does not appear in our known-burial records. I have contacted the Lower Methodist Church in Hartfield, Virginia, 23071 and the Hermitage Baptist Church, in Churchview, Virginia, 23032, and they have no record of burials before about 1850 either."
Daniel also had a daughter named Elizabeth, who married Barnet Paine. Elizabeth was not listed in Daniel's will and because of that, a law suit was brought by 4 June 1717 by Barnet and Elizabeth Trigg Paine against the Executor, Thomas Kidd, of Daniel's estate. Barnet & Elizabeth lost the law suit as it was the opinion of the Court that Elizabeth was sufficiently advanced by her father in his life time. Elizabeth was also listed in Alexander Cr___'s will of 7 April 1684. Alexander was Elizabeth's god father and he left her a young horse and lists her as "Eliz Trigg daughter of Dan Trigg". The following is a transcription of Daniel's will of 1716:
In the name of God, Amen. I, Daniel Tridge of Middlesex County being of or in perfect sense and memory at the making of this my last Will and Testament, do dispose and make void all other wills formally by me maid, do give as following.
First, I give my soul to God who gave it in hoping in my blessed savor Jesus Christ two injoy a useful life and my body two the earth two be buried in a desent manorby the directuon of mt Executor, hereinafter named and as for my worldly goods, I give and bequeath as followeth: That is to say my Will and pleasure is that all my whole estate in usuable and unusualable goods and cattle be divided into three equal parts between my loving wife, Mary and my two daughters--Alice Kidd and Sarah Bashitt or otherwise heirs and I do appoint and ordain my son in law, Thomas Kidd, two be my whole Executor and administer of this my last will and testament as witness my hand and seal this the 16th day of June in the year of our Lord 1716. I have conferred and given to my wife my best bed and covering thereunto belong. Signed with Daniel Tridge's Mark of X and witnessed by Thomas Kidd and John Kidd.
