Melvin Leo Bachman

Melvin Leo Bachman, 70, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Feb.21, 1999.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today in St Stephen United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terry C. Lowe and Dr. Jim W. Smith officiating. The family will have a private burial services in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St.

Mr. Bachman was born in Meade County, Kan. And went to schools in Sherman County. He was an Army veteran who served in Korean and Japan. He spent most of his life on ranches in Texas, New Mexico and Colorado and then settled in Dalhart.

Mr. Bachman was a rancher and horse trainer. He retired as assistant feed mill manager from Coronado Feeders in Dalhart. He was active with the Dallam County 4-H Equestrian Boys and Girls Club.

In 1994, Mr. Bachman moved to Amarillo. He was a member of St Stephen United Methodist Church.

He married Joy Elliott in 1977.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Mark Elliott of Fritch; four daughters, Roberta Hollers of Dalhart and Emma Briggs, Kim Butler and Lori Walterscheid, all of Amarillo; two brothers, Alvin Bachman of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Richard Bachman of Oklahoma City; two sisters Dorothy Foster of Amarillo and Norma James of Plains, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
