Funeral Service for W.F. Burke Held At Newkirk.
Newkirk, Jan. 13 - Funeral services for W.F. Burke, first justice of the peace in this section after the opening of the Cherokee strip, who died at his home here Wednesday, were held Friday afternoon.
Burke came here when the country was opened for settlement in 1893. Prior to that time he was a Methodist minister in Iowa. He also had been admitted to the bar. He served in an Indiana regiment during the Civil war. He was 78 years old at the time of his death.
One of his sons is Hal S. Burke, Kay county judge.
