Notes for Samuel Chapman (Spouse 3)
The s/o Samuel C. Fielder (born 22 October 1758 in Virginia) and his second wife Frances Leachman (born 27 October 1791 in Prince Edward County, Virginia) the d/o Leonard Leachman and Sarah Foster. He was his father's youngest son and one of twelve children. Married Elizabeth Miles Henderson 24 January 1833 in Yancyville, Caswell County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of Jacob Henderson and Mary Haralson. They were the parents of ten children: Sarah Frances/1834, Martha Elizabeth/1836, Eliza Jane/1839, William Jackson/1841, Mary Ann Rebecca/1843, Missouri Margaret/1846, Lenora Miles/1849, Samuel Leonard/1852, Priscilla Ellen/1855, Lauretta Keith/1857. The family moved to Pike County, Missouri ca. 1835 and eventually acquired 1200 acres. The 1840 census recorded ownership of ten slaves. On 2 May 1860 in Cedar County Circuit Court Elizabeth was granted a divorce from SCF who was described as an habitual drunkard. The family were southern sympathizers and Samuel was reputed to have served as a captain in the army. He married a second time Rebecca Epperson who was a widow with three children.
