Billie Mayfield Newman, 92, of Bruceville, died Monday, April 25, 2011, in Katy, Texas. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at Bruceville-Moore Cemetery in Bruceville. Visitation with Billie's family will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, at OakCrest Funeral Home.
Billie was born in Mooreville, Texas, to the late Tolbert Fannin Mayfield and Jessie Elaina Moore Mayfield. She grew up in Bruceville and attended Bruceville High School. She married Melborn Norris Newman of Moody on Oct. 1, 1939. They moved to Katy in 1947 with their four sons and lived there until 1970 when they moved back to the family farm in Bruceville. She was a member of Bruceville Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters; and two brothers.
Billie is survived by her sons, Tolbert Newman, of Houston, Larry Newman, of Katy, Michael Newman, of Waco, and Pat Newman, of Dallas; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and sister, Bobbie Mayfield Haddock.
