Notes for William KIMBROUGH
WILLIAM KIMBRO was born about 1734 on his father's 400 acre plantation in Orange Co., Virginia. He was the son of Thomas Kimbrough and Eleanor Graves. The family moved to Gloucester, Caswell Co., NC in 1764. William's father's 1777 Will left William a Slave named Gabe and 80 pounds cash.
In 1786, William's mother Eleanor was paid for her Patriotic Services during the Revolution. William was also a NC Patriot of the Revolution.

William married Elizabeth Gooch. They were among the first settlers in middle Tennessee. By 1799 they owned 450 acres of land in Davidson Co., TN. In 1803, their land became part of the newly formed Rutherford County. In 1810 William owned 19 Slaves.

The known children of William and Elizabeth were:
John, William Gooch who married Lucinda Basye, Elizabeth "Betsy" who married Mark Hart, James Azariah, Nancy who married Matthew Hunt, Sarah who married John Campbell, and Joseph Allen.

William, Elizabeth and their youngest son Joseph were buried in the Kimbro Family Cemetery on William's property. The 13 known graves in this Kimbro Cemetery were moved to Mapleview Cemetery in 1974.

ELIZABETH GOOCH KIMBRO was the daughter of Revolutionary War veteran William Gooch, Sr. and Keziah Ann Hart.

Elizabeth married William Kimbro about 1770 in NC. They were in the area that became Rutherford Co., TN by 1799, where they owned 200 acres.

William Kimbro was a Patriot of the Revolution and Elizabeth received a Widow's Pension after his death in 1816.
