John Olin Campbell III, 68, of Cary, NC passed away Sunday of causes related to Alzheimer's.

Olin was born to John Olin and Mildred Patterson Campbell in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and attended Yale University (BA, Psychology '67), Union Theological Seminary (MDiv, '72) and Stanford University (PhD, Educational Psychology, '78). He married the love of his life, Janet Phillips, in 1969 in Southern Pines, NC.

Olin's life work revolved around education. He was a pioneer in the field of computer and distance learning, working and teaching for thirty years with Courseware, WICAT, Vanderbilt University and Brigham Young University. He consulted through his own company CAI/ Performance Mentor. He loved serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a bishop three times. Olin was a wonderful husband and father and a friend to all who met him. He was universally known for his perpetual smile, genuine interest in people, and penchant for photography.

Olin is mourned by his wife of 45 years, Janet Phillips Campbell; sister Johanna (Rudy) Weichert; children, Anna (Brent) Johnson; Julia (Sam) Bernards; James (Lauren) Campbell; Margaret (David) Hedengren; and Sarah (David) Myers; and 14 grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 29th at the LDS Chapel at 6011 McCrimmon Pkwy, Morrisville, NC. Visitation will begin at 10 am, and the service will commence at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the John Olin Campbell III scholarship fund at Brigham Young University.
