James was a son of Archibald H 'A.H.' Boggs and Sarah Shock, he married Amanda McPherson on 17 May 1857.
James removed with wife and children and parents to Grand River, Cass County, Missouri.
He served in the Civil War - 2nd Battalion, Missouri State Militia Cavalry - Age 27 - Married - 5th Congressional District - Union - Rank In Private - Rank Out - Eight Corporal
In the Civil War James and his Father Archibald H Boggs was in Company A, Missouri 1st Cavalry Regiment. The fought the Battle at Lone Jack, Jackson County, Missouri.
BOGGS, ARCHIBALD H. Pvt Co A Sick at Sedalia between April and Aug 1862; horse died in Kansas City about Aug. 30, 1862. It's possible his horse was killed at Lone Jack, his brother/cousin, [Father] James' horse was lost at LJ.

James helped build a public school system and was elected as part of a team to advance educational interests of their town.
He also, along with Talton Railey and O.J. Olas were on the board of health there.

After Amanda died James C married Hannah Winnifred "Winnie" North 9 Dec 1874 in Bates County, Missouri. They were found on the 1880 Census Kansas City, Jackson, Missouri, USA. He age 44 and she age 24. Three of his children are present on this census, Charles, Lizzie and Mary 'Dora'. And two children born to James and Hannah, Archie and Gertrude.
In a 1910 Census he was found in Kansas City Ward 5, Wyandotte, Kansas, USA aged 74 with Hannah and daughter Gertrude. And a final 1920 Census he is aged 84 with Hannah and Gertrude who was married at this time to George L Brooks.
A 1924 Directory of Hannah shows she is a widow so this means that James died between 1920 census and 1924 directory in Kansas City Ward 5, Wyandotte, Kansas.
