Jacob J. Shock, a son of Robert and Margaret (Stump) Shock, was born at Mt. Zion, Calhoun County, VA (WV). He married Caroline Gherke in 1874. Caroline, a daughter of Charles and Wilhelmina Gherke, was born in Germany in January 1847 and died March 12, 1924. She came to America with her parents in 1855.
