Notes for Thomas BURKE Jr.
Thomas Burk, Jr., was born in Caroline County, Virginia in 1765, and he died in 1821 in Wayne County, Kentucky. He married Rebecca Tuttle in Virginia in 1785. She was born in 1765 in Ulster County, New York, the daughter of James Tuttle and Rebecca Washburn. Rebecca Tuttle died after 1833 in Boone County, Missouri at the home of her son.

Right after they married, Thomas and Rebecca moved to Elbert County, Georgia where they lived between 1786 and 1794 based upon the birthplace of their oldest five children. From 1796 until his death, Thomas and Rebecca were in Kentucky where their youngest seven children were born.  A curiosity, in 1802, Thomas purchased 100 acres on Cedar Creek in Russell County, Virginia, and on 24 May 1803, an indenture from Thomas Burk and Rebekah to David Hendricks, was recorded. (David Hendricks was the brother of Phoebe Hendricks.  Phoebe was the mother of Martin Gibson who married Thomas and Rebecca’s daughter, Patience.)

After his death in 1821, his wife, Rebecca, went to Missouri. Two of Rebecca Tuttle Burk's brothers left Georgia around 1805 to go to Wayne County, Kentucky which appears to have been a family plan not a coincidence.

From records of Margaret I. Hawk, 1993: Rebecca Tuttle, the only daughter of James and Rebecca (Washburn) Tuttle who has been identified, is known because she gave to affidavits in May 1833 supporting her brother Nicholas's Revolutionary War pension claim. She was then living in Missouri, and gave her age as 68, thus indicating she was born about 1765. Her birthplace was at Highland, Ulster County, New York.”
