He was born in Germany, where his father was stationed as an Army Ranger. He was raised in Colorado, where he graduated from Arvada West High School.
At the age of 17, Todd enlisted in the U.S. Army as part of a delayed enlistment program, serving as an Infantry Soldier with Charlie Company 1/16, First Infantry Division "Big Red One" at Fort Riley, Kansas. He rose to the rank of E-4 Specialist, serving as an Infantry Team Leader, Bradley Fighting Vehicle Gunner, and certified Combat Lifesaver. Todd was deployed to Saudi Arabia during the Persian Gulf War and was honorably discharged following a distinguished three-year enlistment.
Following his service, Todd pursued higher education, earning his B.A. in Criminal Justice from the University of Northern Colorado, where he was recognized as the Departmental Scholar in 1999 for his academic excellence. His dedication to learning was a testament to his determination and passion for justice.
This led to a remarkable 20-year career as a Lakewood Police Agent, where he committed himself to protecting and supporting his community. After his retirement, he continued his service as a Deputy Court Marshal for the City of Lakewood for three and a half years.
Beyond his professional achievements, Todd was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, and coach. He shared 22 loving years of marriage with his college sweetheart and together they raised their two sons, his greatest pride and joy.
Todd was a cherished son to his mother, and his late father, Francis (Alice). He was a beloved brother to two siblings, and a proud uncle to his thirteen nieces and nephews, as well as his great-niece.
An avid runner, Todd completed 35 half marathons, 2 full marathons, and an ultra-marathon, inspiring a love of running in his son, Matthew. His passion for sports extended to hockey, where he played for the Blade Runners men's league team and helped coach his son Ian's hockey team.
Todd found immense joy in camping and traveling, believing that some of his greatest moments in life came from sharing these experiences with his family. He took pride in creating unforgettable memories for his sons, cherishing every adventure together.
Todd was also an amazing friend, who was known for his sense of humor, his infectious laughter, and his ability to make those around him feel at ease. His presence made life brighter for those who had the privilege of knowing him.
In 2024, shortly after his 50th birthday, Todd was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer—a year-long battle that he faced with the same unwavering courage and determination that had defined his life. Todd found great comfort in his catholic faith and leaned heavily on Jesus in his final months. On April 17, 2025, Todd passed away at home, surrounded by family. Though he will be deeply missed, Todd's legacy of service, devotion, and love will continue to shine through in the lives of those he touched, forever leaving an imprint on the hearts of his family and friends.
Funeral events honoring Todd, will be held on May 2nd and will begin at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church (12735 W. 58th Avenue, Arvada). Guests will gather at 10:00 am for law enforcement honors prior to the funeral mass which will begin at 10:30 am. A reception will be held immediately following the mass (11:30 am) in the Orleans Hall of the church. At the conclusion of the reception (1:30 pm), a procession will accompany Todd to Louisville Cemetery (located at the corner of Highway 42 and Empire Road in Louisville) for a graveside service (2:30 pm) to include military honors. Guests are invited to join his family for any or all of the events.
