His parents were both born in Kansas. They were Jacob Donald Patton and Martha Jane Crawford. They only lived a short time in Montana. He lived most of his life in Idaho and then in Utah. He went by the nickname of Bill. He married his first wife was Sylvia Ann (Ardella) Offret,3 Nov 1938. They had 3 children. Barbara Ann Patton, William Robert Patton, and Donald Martin Patton. His second wife was Colleen Mae Ruby. They had no children together.

Obituary - Sylvia Ardella "Ann" Offret Utley, 75, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all, died April 30, 1994 at her home in Leeds, Utah.
She was born November 3, 1918 in Francis, Utah to Yves Marion and Bertha Eliza Bates Offret. She married William Martin Patton November 3, 1938. They were later divorced. She married Thad Utley February 14, 1968.She grew up in Provo Canyon where her family lived and managed the Wildwood Resort. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Orem. After her husband retired in 1971, they lived in St. Johns, Utah on a cattle ranch and farm. They moved to Salt Lake City in 1981 and lived there until 1989 when they moved to Leeds.
She was an active member of the LDS Church. She was hard-working, energetic, an early riser, loved to play jokes and tricks. Everyone loved Sylvia and she developed close friendships quickly. She loved gardening, poetry, music.
She is survived by her husband, Thad Utley; her daughters, Mrs. Orvil (Barbara) Parry, Orem; Mrs. Gary (Jan) Turpin, Bountiful; her sons, Bill (Pamela) Patton, Don (Connie) Patton, both of Kearns; Dennis (Susan) Utley, Farmington; Vernon (Christine) Utley, Alpine; 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Bertha McKean, Orem; DeVerl Jensen, Provo; Vera Hall, American Fork; Isabella P. Lewis, Pleasant Grove; three brothers, Marion Offret, DeVar Offret, both of Provo; Henry Offret, Provo Canyon.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 3, at 1 p.m. in the Leeds LDS Chapel. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Additional services will be held Wednesday, May 4, at 1 p.m. in the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 600 North 800 East, Orem. Friends may call from 11:30 to 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
