Obituary
THE DEATH OF DAVID McEWEN
David McEwen died at his home at 1229 East Austin street Saturday morning at 5 o'clock. He was 80 years old and had been suffering for some time with stomach trouble.
He leaves a wife and three sons--Jasper, of Galena; Bert, of Fort Scott, and Richard, of Nevada, to mourn his death.
Mr. McEwen came to Vernon county about 45 years ago, and settled in Montevallo township, but has lived in Nevada for several years. He was a member of the Baptist church and a conscientious Christian man.
The funeral will be held at the residence Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be at Deepwood under the auspiecs of the G. A. R. of which Mr. McEwen was a member. (The Weekly Post)

Death cert #30262.
Birth date has been recorded as 11/31/1840 but of course there is no 31 in November.

Sadly as near as I can tell this cemetery is now a cultivated field with no sign it is the burial place of many. Jarrott Cox

“I am bound to them though I cannot look into their eyes or hear their voices. I honor their history. I cherish their lives.
I will tell their story. I will remember them for I am the result of the very love, struggle, sacrifice and journey of thousands.”
