Notes for Jacob Shock (Spouse 1)
Jacob was a son of Archibald Henry Boggs and Sarah Shock. He married Rachel Keener on 16 Apr 1857 in Braxton County, West Virginia. She was a daughter of Thomas Keener and Elizabeth Green. They are mentioned in the book "Recollections of a Life Time by Col Daniel S DeWees 1904. (Pgs 23-24) You can download the book on PDF at the Internet Archive (https://archive.org/details/recollectionsofl00dewe)

Rachel died in Childbirth, Steer Creek, Braxton County, Virginia while giving birth to their son Benjamin Thomas Boggs. (http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_view.aspx?Id=4566685&Type=Death)

During the dark and bloody days from 1861-5, the Mt. Carmel Church was presided over by Rev. John Stump. . . (Speaking of the Civil War)

(I am not sure if this Jacob S Boggs is the one mentioned here or The son of William M Boggs and Sarah Stump, a son of Charles Francis Boggs and Mary Clendenn.)

On the next few pages he went on to write about the sickness that was everywhere and deep snow.

This Jacob was found on documents as being a soldier the Civil War at the Gauley Bridge in a town in Fayette County.

A short time had passed when Jacob was captured and taken as a prisoner of war as found on POW papers.

The only proof of his death at this time is the family Bible with a page written by Jacob Shock stating the birth's and deaths of Archie's family. No detail of where they occurred. (I found a letter from my Uncle Herbert Boggs who had the Family Bible that goes back to 1837. It stated that Rachel died from Child Birth and Jacob, after returning home from the Civil War was bit by a rabied dog and died.)

His grandfather Jacob Shock aged 71 joined the Civil War on the Union Side. He lived and was seen aged 81 in the home of Warren Bourn.

Archie and Benijah were split up shortly after the 1860 census, Archie was taken in by William Rollyson where he remained living beside of him until William's passing.

Benijah 'Thomas' Boggs was living in the home of James Anderson Boggs and wife Susan Cutlip.

I will tell their story. I will remember them for I am the result of the very love, struggle, sacrifice and journey of thousands.”
